Shiela Weisgerber is an amazing woman.
In 2016, the 54-year-old grandmother worked as a waitress while also caring for her daughter’s triplets.
During her shifts, Shiela loved talking about her daughter’s 4-year-old triplet boys – Bentley, Ashton, and Dalton.
Shiela, a North Dakota bartender, has been the sole caretaker for the triplets since they were only two months old. Her daughter was a struggling single mother and already had a little baby when she discovered she was pregnant with triplets.
Overflowed with emotions, the young mother felt she couldn’t provide the boys with the life she wanted to give them.
But then grandma Shiela stepped in and stood up – even though she also was going through some rough times. Working as a waitress, the money barely made ends meet. But the thought of leaving the boys to another family never occurred to her.
Together, Sheila and the boys managed to cope with everyday life as a family with less money than others – but with more love and warmth.
Sheila was so proud of her boys that she couldn’t stop talking about them. But one day, all her ‘bragging’ about her children took an unexpcted turn, and would lead to her crying in the bathroom…
When Shiela Weisgerber’s daughter, a 30-year-old single mother, found out that she was expecting triplets, she broke down. The young mom was already having a tough time and knew she couldn’t provide for three more children. And as if this wasn’t tragic enough, the boys’ father had passed away from a car crash a couple of months before their arrival to the world.
But fortunately, she didn’t have to give the boys up for adoption and leave them to another family. Instead, grandma Shiela took care of the boys after they turned two months old.
”At first it was very overwhelming,” she stold ABC News. ”And, at first I thought I bit off more than I could chew.”
Today these wonderful triplet boys are 10 years old! Everything has turned out fine, despite the fact that Grandma Shiela also struggled financially. She worked as a waitress, and her salary wasn’t enough for more than absolutely necessary.
But as you probably know, love and security are the most important things for children growing up – and Shiela had plenty to offer in that sense.
”I do what I gotta do each day, and it works,” she explained and continued:
”They’re good little guys.”
She was incredibly proud of Bentley, Ashton, and Dalton and took every chance to tell everyone about her boys. Then, one day a couple walked into the bar where Shiela worked. While waiting to be served, they heard Shiela tell her story. The couple couldn’t help; they were deeply touched by the grandmother’s story and her tireless struggle to give her triplet boys everything.
In fact, they were so moved that they left a small message on the bill.
”Take care of those boys!” it read. And not only that, but the couple also decided to give the strapped grandma a very generous tip of $300, in addition to their $33 tab.
The shocked grandmother just stared at the credit card slip in disbelief.
”I looked at it, and I looked at it again. You read stuff about it, and you hear about it, and you wonder, ‘Is that really true? Do people really do that?”
After the incident, Shiela felt compelled to share the gesture that brought tears to her eyes. She posted a picture of the receipt and wrote:
”I went to the bathroom and I cried and I was blown away because to me that’s a lot of money.”
And it wasn’t only Shiela who was touched by the unexpected act of kindness. Her post went viral and it also affected the whole community in a positive way, according to the grandmother’s employer.
”The last few months have been really hard with random deaths around here,” the owner of the bar, Dave Cole Jr, explained and added:
”We really needed a boost. This was a godsend. Literally, it made everybody brighten up. You know that there still is good left.”
