A 70-year-old lady named Carolyn Hartz was like most people in the world. She was hooked on sweets. And for 4 decades, she wasn’t shy on gorging on desserts. But then she decided to make a significant change to her lifestyle. And she decided to completely give up processed sugar.

Fast forward to today, 3 decades later, and Carolyn looks so much younger now than she ever has been. She has a really tight body that a lot of women all over the world would be jealous of. Even at her old age, she has the confidence to wear a bikini at the beach as any young lady would. She also has an incredibly healthy-looking complexion.

She says that it’s all because of her making the decision to change her lifestyle choices. She says that it’s never too late for anyone. You just have to decide to make your life better for it to happen.

“A lot of women post 50 think that it’s not possible to maintain a reasonable shape and weight when they reach 50 or beyond,” she said. “While it may be ‘a little more difficult’ to stay in shape for women post 40, it can still be possible if you really want to work at it. We know our metabolism slows down as we get older it just means we have to take control and make healthier choices and work a little harder.

I believe it is very important to be aware of the type of food you eat and the quantity of food you eat. Being mindful while you are eating is a huge factor. Mindless eating can lead to unnecessary weight gain. I say to my customers ‘taste and enjoy every mouthful’… it will help you slow down and you will be less likely to overeat.”

She genuinely believes that if a woman wants to look her absolute best, then she really has to make a conscious effort to really focus on her diet and her overall outlook on life. For one, she says it’s key that one most always has a positive and upbeat disposition. And two, it’s always best to avoid sugar.

She goes on to say, “I am an optimist even when I have challenges thrown at me I have learnt to stay positive. I have trained myself to remember the half the glass is always half full. You may laugh at this but I wish the weather presenters would say a partially sunny day, not a partially cloudy day. I think it would make the viewers so much happier.”

She adds, “I have been sugar-free for 28 years. It was difficult at first as I was a sugar addict but I believe it is one of the most important reasons I have been able to keep myself healthy and keep my body shape. I make sure I eat protein with every meal especially breakfast. It stops the cravings.”

However, she also stresses that it’s important that you never deprive yourself of consuming the food and drinks that you love to have. Life is too short. But she always encourages everyone to take everything in moderation. She claims it’s all about knowing the proper portions.

She also revealed that her resolve to live a healthier life came as a result of her becoming diagnosed with pre-Type 2 diabetes. This was what opened her eyes to the many potential perils of her sugar addiction.

She said, “I could see what the effects of diabetes two were going to do to me. When you’re frightened of something you should change, and I did because I didn’t want to be unhealthy.”

That’s why she decided to replace all of her usual sugary treats with food that was rich in protein. She said that protein-heavy meals kept her fuller for longer and they helped prevent sudden cravings for sweets. She started out with having just five small healthy meals in a day.

She realized that her diet really started to change her life and that’s when she decided to share her recipes to the world in a book called Sweetlife.

She also makes it a point to sleep for at least 8 uninterrupted hours every single night. She says, “I have done this for most of my life and now the research shows that it is essential for good health to get this number of hours. It is when our body heals and rejuvenates.”

She also attributes a lot of her health and wellbeing to the fact that she always practices meditation and gratitude. But when it comes to maintaining healthy skin, she doesn’t really do anything out of the ordinary. This is what she has to say about it:

“I never go to bed without cleansing and removing my make-up and I moisturize every night especially around the eyes and neck. I wear sunscreen every day under my makeup and never sunbake. I am very aware of the damaging effects of the sun and I had this reminder when I had cancer removed from my nose when I was only 30.”
