In the music video from 2019, Rod Stewart performs I Don’t Want To Talk About It from his album You’re In My Heart: Rod Stewart with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with members of the orchestra itself seen playing in the background. The album combines classic vocals from the biggest hits with newly recorded arrangements by the RPO.
I Don’t Want To Talk About It is a song originally written by Danny Whitten. It was first recorded by Crazy Horse and issued as the final track on side one of their 1971 eponymous album. While it was Whitten’s signature tune, it gained more fame via its numerous cover versions, especially that by Rod Stewart.
In 1975, Rod Stewart recorded the song at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, for his album Atlantic Crossing. This became successful when it was released as a single. In the United States, it became a top 50 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1980.
The song also topped the UK Singles Chart and is widely believed to have benefitted from being deliberately released as a budget single in order to keep the Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen from clinching first place.
The week this video was released, Stewart revealed that he was in remission after secretly battling prostate cancer for several years. Describing the new album in an Instagram post, Stewart said, “Lush versions of your favorite songs. You’re going to love it.”
Footage from his first music video of I Don’t Want To Talk About It is also included in this 2019 version. Along with cinematic shots of members of RPO, as they played their instruments, this production combined nostalgia and modernity together. The cherry on top of it all is that it was filmed at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Sir Rod Stewart was knighted in 2016 by the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. He is 75 years old this year.
