British singer and actor Olly Alexander, who has also modeled for Rihanna’s brand, expressed his disappointment after the Barbadian singer invited Johnny Depp to make a guest appearance at her new Fashion Show.
It was reported that Johnny Depp will make a guest appearance at Rihanna’s fourth edition of the Savage X Fenty fashion show.
According to TMZ, the 59-year-old actor will not take to the show’s runway but will make a brief cameo in Volume 4 of the show on November 9. Depp will be the first male celebrity to be featured in the spotlight moment of the fourth installation.
According to Variety, “his brief cameo follows in the vein of other celeb moments, like Cindy Crawford’s appearance in the 2021 Savage X Fenty showcase.
“Other confirmed celebrities for the “Vol. 4” show include Rihanna herself, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” actor Winston Duke, “Abbott Elementary” Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, Marvel’s “Shang-Chi” star Simu Liu, “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson, Irina Shayk, Marsai Martin and performances by Burna Boy and Anitta.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has already filmed his part and is reportedly very excited to collab with the Love on the Brain singer.
Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 will be premiered on Amazon Prime on Wednesday, November 9.
Johnny’s appearance in the fashion show comes after his bitter legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard where he was accused of causing physical and mental harm to the actress.
The news didn’t sit well with many We Found Love singer fans, and she has been under heavy criticism since the news broke on social media.
“if Rihanna wanted to ACTUALLY make a social statement about male victims of abuse, there were so many better options for her Fenty show… #FireDepp #FentyBeauty,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“I’m so confused why he’s getting praise? Rihanna, this is NOT you. I figure out of anyone, you would know what sexual assault is….” Said another.
“Supporting an abuser after being a victim of abuse? this ain’t it riri,” another commented.
“Johnny Depp has been embraced as a hero by unhinged right-wing misogynist extremists, and now he’s been invited to appear in the@SavageXFenty show. Never expected such a powerful woman to succumb to the #MeToo backlash. Really disappointing @rihanna,” someone said.
Following the news, the Years & Years singer took to Twitter and quote-retweeted Pop Crave’s original tweet and made an exaggerated sad face emoji.
His Retweet received a huge response from fans, and many people appreciated Olly for not supporting Depp.
One fan pointed out that Olly himself modeled for Riri’s brand, “But, “Savage X Fenty” is you baby……. you wear it so well.”
